Make tonight a First Friday night by heading to the Crossroads district, the heart of Kansas City’s cultural activity, for an evening of art, entertainment and dining. Explore our local art galleries, retailers and more as their doors stay open late tonight and every first Friday of the month. Take an evening stroll through the Crossroads, along 18th Street between Baltimore and Broadway to the west and Grand and Holmes to the east.

One of tonight’s featured programming is ART x ARCHITECTS, an exhibit created by AIA Kansas City. The exhibit will be showcasing some of the work of our local architects including painting, drawing, sculpture and photography.

So head out to the Crossroads District tonight and start your Labor Day weekend off right!

We’re always looking for design inspirations to share with you. We discovered these kitchens that use marble and granite countertops in Architectural Digest and couldn’t resist showing them to you!

This Upper East Side kitchen was designed by Lee F. Mendel and Peter L. Shelton and features white-marble countertops for a modern look.

This kitchen was updated by architects from Tigerman McCurry Architects of Chicago. It was formerly a narrow gallery arrangement, but has been expanded to have stainless-steel countertops and a granite-topped island great for casual dining and entertaining.

Designer Stephen Shadley originated the idea for inverted-lampshade fixtures for the Beverly Hills home of actress Diane Keaton. Shadley said they direct light down, which nicely displays vintage pottery atop white-marble countertops.

Architect Peter Cohen assisted chef Giada De Laurentiis and her husband, Todd Thompson, transform their home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles into a contemporary home. Thompson revealed that the kitchen was the whole reason for rebuilding their home. Their new modern home features a kitchen with white-concrete floors and white-marble countertops, which nicely show off the dark brown accents.
